The phrase "All-Purpose Vizslas and German
Shorthairs" which forms part of the Bajnok
logo, reflects the essence of my approach to breeding. It should be very
clear that I do not claim that every puppy I produce is show quality. I
do not claim every puppy I produce will be a capable hunter.
Unfortunately, I can not even claim that every puppy I produce will be
sound and healthy. What I DO claim is that I try my best to produce
puppies that are sound and healthy representatives of their breed and
that meet the requirements of the breed standard, including natural
hunting ability.
Breeding
is my hobby. A rather costly hobby but one that I enjoy. I do not
breed in order to meet a demand or to produce "pet litters". I
breed when I want to produce a Vizsla or Shorthair for my or someone
else's breeding
program. The challenge of breeding, of course, is to select breeding
stock wisely and apply sound breeding principles in the use of that
breeding stock. The hope in each case is to produce dogs that are better
than their own parents. Incidentally to the pursuit of my hobby, Vizsla
or Shorthair puppies will be produced that require good homes and these
are the puppies that are made available to purchasers
occasionally.
Breeding, like politics, is "the art
of the possible". In planning
any breeding
choices and compromises have to be
made.
"How" these choices and compromises
are made is what distinguishes the
serious
breeder from the casual or
the backyard
breeder. I would add that acknowledging
that
choices and compromises have to be
made is
also a sign of a responsible breeder.
The
person who claims perfection for his
or her
dog is often either not well informed or disingenuous.
A serious breeder remains responsible
for
the choices made and this is reflected
in
the guarantee I offer. In my opinion,
a good
guarantee must be simple, equitable
and efficacious.
Each of my puppy will be guaranteed free of
any serious congenital or hereditary
defect
or disease for a period of five years.
In
the event a puppy is found to be suffering
from such a defect or disease, I will
refund
50% of the purchase price of the puppy.
If
the defect or disease is such as to
require
euthanasia, I will give the same refund
or
a new puppy at the option of the owner.
I
should explain that I do not really believe
in the
"replacement dog" type of
guarantee.
While this type of guarantee might
sound
good, it is really meaningless. Who
would
accept to abandon a dog they have had
for
months or years in order to obtain
a new
dog? I would not want any of my puppies
to
go to someone who is willing to abandon
their
dog simply because it is sick. And
simply providing that a new puppy is offered is not practical in the
case of a hobby breeder who breeds only occasionally as the wait for the
new puppy could prove unreasonably long.
If
interested in discussing the placement of a Bajnok puppy in your home,
the first step involves the completion of my questionnaire which can be
downloaded from this site (button at top of page). Following receipt of
a completed questionnaire, I like to arrange for a meeting if possible
so we can meet each other and you can meet my dogs. Following this
meeting, you can decide whether you wish to make a reservation for one
of my puppies and I decide whether I want to accept a reservation.
